Welcome to my workshop. This is my first powder coating set-up.
It's small and cheap, but it does me well. The powdercoat gun is a Hobby Gun from Chicago Electric.
The oven is a basic household electric stove I picked up For $75. It has all digital displays and timers. Perfect for my needs.
And better than the one in the house! The stove is on caster wheels for easy meanuverability. On top of the stove you will notice a homemade paint booth.
I got this idea from "pdeinc" at Caswell Plating. It works great, and is easy to clean.
On the other side of the garage, I have my portable workbench with sandblasting cabinet. The blasting gun and pickup tube that came with this sucked. SO I went to
Menards and boughyt a new gun. I made a hole in the workbech and fit a funnel in it, and attached a tube to that funnel that flown into a bucket. Also
in that bucket is the gun puckup tube and blast media. So when I sandblast, the media just recycles right back into the bucket. Mouse over the picture for a description. |

These are the first parts I ever powdercoated. It was fairly easy, but jsut like liquid paint, surface preperation is everything.
I spent mroe time cleaning the parts and preping them for paint, than painting and switching colors 7 times. Cleanup is a snap! You use air for everything!
It was less then 5 minutes to switch between colors. My major problem is though, that I live in a high humidity state, and even through 2 water traps, there
was still plenty of water getting through the airline and staring to cause problems. Mouse over the picture for a description. |
